There are not enough words in the English language to sum up just how beautiful Santorini is. Is it worth the hype? ONE HUNDRED PERCENT. I’ve been in love with Paris since I was ten years old and I honestly never thought another place could come close to replacing it – until I went to Santorini. It just may be the most beautiful place I have ever seen. From the sun kissed ocean, to the bright blue roofs, to the cheap and delicious food that never seems to end. When we planned out our trip, we knew Santorini was a MUST – and we did everything we could do in our power to make it happen.
Debs and I stayed in Fira – the main part of Santorini (which we LOVED) – and we rented a car when we got to the island and would spend hours just driving along the roads. In the beginning, we were scared shitless. And then as we figured it out – it became second nature to us and we would just relax and open the windows and blast music from our iPhones as we stopped every ten minutes because each view was more beautiful than the last. We admired the donkeys, rode the cable cars, ate the lamb and one day, I literally just laid out on the beach and read a book.
One evening, when Debs was stuck back in the room with a cold, I took the car and just ventured around the island by myself. I got dinner, treated myself to some wine and watched the sunset. Then, I decided to drive to Oia – the most picturesque of all the towns in Santorini. I just drove along the cliffs, my windows down and it was, in one word, perfect.
Leaving Santorini was physically difficult. It’s one of those places where I know, in my heart, I’ll be visiting again one day. Just typing this out makes me miss it.
