Nobel Peace Prize winner, Professor Muhammad Yunus (creator of the Grameen Bank), has developed an Institute of Social Business in association with my school, Cal State University Channel Islands. It’s the first major of it’s kind and on Fri, Feb 26th, he came to Thousand Oaks to speak before 2000 students and to kick off the historical educational opportunity.

My dad wound up producing the on stage question/answer segment and I tagged along as his PA for the day. We hung out with the moderator, I roamed the stage of the HUGE Civic Arts Plaza and the President of my school gave me a hug when he found out I was an English major.
Yunus talked for almost an hour an it was one of the most inspirational conversations I’ve ever been able to witness. The man is a perfect example that one person CAN change the world, and before he left he told the audience that each and every one of us were capable of the same thing. Seeing all he’s accomplished, I almost believe that it’s possible.

After the show, my dad snuck me backstage (since that’s where he was for the duration) and I got to meet the man himself. He was one of the happiest and genuine people I’ve ever met and just standing next to him made me believe that I could make the world a better place.
Outfit (since this IS a fashion blog, after all):

  • Top, thrifted. I love love love the sleeves. So light and airy. And the detailing on the shirt is the perfect size. It’s silk too!
  • Pencil skirt, Ann Taylor. Navy blue, just tight enough. Only problem with pencil skirts is they tend to ride up when you walk, so I’m constantly pulling it down.
  • Coat, F21. I liked the contrast between the deep read and the blues I was wearing.
  • Wedges, Reflections, $10. I managed to wear them for the entire day, great success. 🙂
