So after my Aldo post a few nights ago, I’ve been seriously eyeing the glitter Cedrina booties. Everyone seemed so enthusiastic about them! I can totally hop aboard the glitter train, but $120 just seems a bit much for something that may be obsolete in a few months.
SOOOO, I remembered this DIY that I had come across a few months ago via Sprinkles in Springs.
I mean, I even had the SAME exact Old Navy boot lying around! Helloooooo DIY project!
Picked up this seriously cute bootie about a year ago from Old Navy for only $13! I was just at Target and saw that they have a similar style, suede, taupe bootie on sale for about $15, if this is a DIY you’d be interested in trying at home!
I’ve been playing with glitter on shoes since the summer, and even though Kara used paint, I decided to stick to good ol’ Elmer’s glue.
Other ingredients:
-Glitter, I used a champagne color from Michael’s
-Paintbrush(s). Sometime it helps to use different width brushes to apply the glitter glue
-Tape
-A plastic cup
-Paper towel or newspaper
Basically, what you want to do is mix the glue and the glitter together. I usually just eye it. I pour some glue in the cup (you really don’t need a ton), and pour enough glitter into it so that the glue changes to the color of the glitter. You can really put as much or as little as you want, but keep in mind that once the glue dries, all that is left is the glitter. If there’s not enough glitter, you’ll have to do a lot more coats of the glitter glue later on.
Use the tape to block off the area that you don’t want to be glued on the shoe. I used Scotch tape, since it’s all I could find. Masking tape would have been better, just cause it would have been easier to remove once the project was completed. The Scotch tape made it a little messy.
PS: Sorry this photo is out of focus!
Paint away! I started making these at 11pm, so I did a couple of coats and then let it dry overnight. I did a few more coats this morning to finish it up and get the glitter to fully cover the back of the shoe.
Annnnnnd here’s the final product ::
BAM! My very own glitter bootie! I’m going to have to go and clean them up a little bit more (damn you, Scotch tape!) but I’m really happy with how they came out!
Super easy and I was totally able to save $113. I may wind up buying the Aldo ones eventually (I mean, they have to go on sale SOMETIME) but for the time being, these ones will work just fine.
xoxo,
